Design your bottom line – (Or how to increase in your turnover!)
Posted in Customer Service
Last year I attended a great workshop all about design and how design impacts revenue. It was organised by the Design Council and entitled “Designing Demand”.
Obviously, I was already sold on the concept of design before I went (I wouldn’t be much of a designer if I wasn’t!). I already believe it has a massive impact on the growth and success of a business, but even I wasn’t prepared for the figures I heard. I was stunned at the massive influence that effectively using design has on your bottom line. For instance, did you know that a recent survey by the design council showed that for every £100 design-led businesses spends on design their turnover increases by £225?
One hundred and twenty five percent!
Well to help you see this impact a little clearer, I thought I’d share with you a couple of the case studies that were shared at the workshop.
1. Manor Born, a small local sausage producer, spent £15,000 on design and branding and saw turnover increase by 57% in 3 months and sales grow from £30,000 per annum to £1,000,000 per annum in just two years.
2. By effectively using design to rebrand and reposition themselves Environtech Cleansing Services saw their turnover double in 2003.
3. Interlace Limited, a modular flooring manufacturer, has seen 15%+ sales growth year on year since 2003, and this they directly attribute to engaging with design.
4. The stock market Design Index companies (those FTSE companies stategically using design within their business) have consistently outperfomed other FTSE companies. Between 1993 and 2003 FTSE companies saw on average 25% growth. Design Index companies saw 350% growth.
Astonishing isn’t it? One thing comes through loud and clear – THE MONEY YOU SPEND ON DESIGN IS AN INVESTMENT! Any outlay you make on engaging with design will ultimate be repayed many times over. In business that’s what we call an easy spend and the question to ask is can you afford not to?
At Cogiva we want to see our clients grow and we truly believe design is a key ingredient of their sustained growth – giving your customers an amazing experience of your organisation. If you would like to know more or if we can help you in any way on your business journey, then drop us a line
